Whenever we buy a new vehicle, a number is given to the vehicle by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and by that number our vehicle is registered in the Regional Office. Recently, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has issued a notification about the scheme related to the color scheme of the number plates on vehicles. There are many types of vehicles running in our country like petrol, diesel, electric etc. The government has fixed a guideline about which color background number plate will be applied on all these vehicles and in which color the number plate will be written on it.
What is Vehicle Number Plate? :-
We all have seen number plates of different colors on different types of cars, each number and alphabet written on each number plate has a special meaning, by a number plate we can find out that this car Which state, which city does it belong to or who owns it? The first 2 alphabets written on the number plate represent the state, for example MP means Madhya Pradesh, UP means Uttar Pradesh etc.

The next 2 alphabets indicate in which directory of the computer the registration details of this vehicle have been saved.

Types of Vehicle Number Plate :-
The most commonly used number plate is the white background on which alphabets and numbers are written in black. This number plate is meant for private vehicles. Vehicles with this number plate cannot be used for any commercial work.
The second most popular number plate is that alphabets and numbers are written in black on a yellow background. This number plate has been prescribed solely for vehicles used for commercial use. Like – bus, truck, taxi, cab, loading vehicle, school bus etc. All these vehicles are driven on rent and it is prohibited to put any other color number plate on them.
At third place comes the number plate with black background on which the alphabet and numbers are written in yellow colour. This number plate is also for commercial vehicles only, but it is self-driving. Example – Zoom Car.
At number four comes the number plate with light blue background on which alphabets and numbers are written in white colour. These vehicles are meant for foreign embassies or UN missions, such vehicles are mostly seen in big cities like Delhi etc.
Red colored number plate: Only the President of India or the Governor of any state has the right to install this plate. Numbers are written on them in golden color
The number plate with an arrow mark is on the sixth number. The vehicles which have an arrow mark before the number plate, and the background is black and the writing on them is in white color, those vehicles belong to the military. .
Seventh, comes the number plate with green background on which alphabets and numbers are written in yellow or white color. This number plate has been prescribed by the Ministry of Roads and Highways for electric vehicles.

According to motor vehicle rules, the number on the number plate should be in English language only. It is against the rules to write numbers in any language other than English.
The writing on the number plate should be in simple font which is easy to see. The font should not have any kind of design or style.
