With the aim of awakening cleanliness among women and girls and giving them information about sanitary napkins and making it available to every woman at low cost, Maharashtra Government launched Asmita Yojana. Under this scheme, sanitary napkins will be made available to the girl students of the state at low cost by tracking them on a large scale, so that they can buy and use it.
Asmita Yojana Maharashtra Launch Detail :-
With the aim of providing sanitary napkins to women and school going girls, this scheme will be implemented in Maharashtra by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on 8th March, the day of International Women's Day. Under this scheme, packets of sanitary napkins will be made available to girl students going to Zilla Parishad schools at Rs 5, while this facility will be made available to village women at subsidized prices of Rs 24 and 29.
Main points of Asmita Yojana key features:
Main Objective: There is very little information available about the hygiene maintained during the menstrual cycle among girls and women living in villages. According to the data received in Maharashtra, only 17 percent of women in rural areas use sanitary napkins. The main reasons behind this are the high price of napkins, its not being easily available in villages, and the women in villages feeling shy about buying it. This scheme has been implemented by the state government with the aim of getting women out of all these problems.
Budget: Maharashtra government has kept a budget of Rs 3 crore for this scheme. Through this, along with providing sanitary napkins to school girls and women at low cost, awareness about cleanliness will also be created among the girl students.
Napkin's Price: These napkin packets will be provided to school girls for Rs 5, in which 1 packet will contain 5 napkins. There are two types of packets available for the women of the same village whose price will be Rs 24 and Rs 29 respectively.
Main Beneficiaries: The main beneficiaries of this scheme are rural girl students aged 11 to 19 years. Apart from this, this benefit will also be given to rural women.
Distribution of sanitary napkins :-
For this scheme, sanitary napkins will be purchased directly by the women working under SHG, for this they will use mobile application.
Now these purchased napkins will be made available to the girl students of the schools. For this, a fee of Rs 5 will be charged from the girl students.
Eligibility for this scheme :-
This scheme is for girl students and women present in Maharashtra.
Special benefit of this scheme will be given to girl students studying in Zilla Parishad schools.
Maharashtra rural women will also be provided sanitary napkins at subsidized price under this scheme.
