Under the direction of the Central Government, the Ministry of Human Resources and Development has launched a new scheme for research scholars, which was announced during the Union Budget on 1 February and the scheme was approved on 7 February. The objective of the scheme is to motivate IIT and IISc students to work in the field of research. This scheme of Rs 1650 crore includes 3000 students who will be registered in PhD for a period of 3 years in 2018-19. 1000 best students of the country who have done B.Tech, Integrated M.Tech or M.Sc in Science from IISc, IIT, NIET. Have done it or are in its final year, will be eligible for direct admission in IISc and IIT.
Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme Eligibility [Eligibility] :-
To avail the full benefit of the scheme, the candidate is required to fulfill certain criteria. This fellowship will be available under Doctoral program, hence the candidate should have completed his/her higher education (undergraduate) with passing marks, or the student should be in the final year.
Apart from this, the candidate must be already enrolled or completed 5 years in M.Tech program (Integrated)
Any candidate who has studied or is studying under the degree course of UGPG program (under graduate-post graduate) is also eligible for the fellowship program.
Doctoral Fellowship Program is only for those candidates who have studied Science and Technology from IISc, IIT, NIET, IISER
It is also important that the candidate has scored at least 8 out of 10 in CGPA or CPI. If the candidate is studying a 5 year UGPG programme, then the scores of the first 4 years will also be counted towards the eligibility for the programme.

Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme Benefits/Features (Key Features) :-
Under this new fellowship program, the government aims to benefit those eligible candidates who want to do research in the field of technology and science in higher education.
The government has also said that with the help of the new web portal service, candidates will get the facility to get instant registration in I.N.
The government also said that this step is to attract talent across the country which is not special or invalid for any state, religion or caste. This facility will be available equally to students of all religions/castes and states.
Scholarship Details (Detailed Stipend Information) Stipend Details :-
According to this announcement, the government will also give scholarship to registered candidates under the doctoral program. In the first 2 years of the program, the government will provide a scholarship of Rs 70,000 per month to each candidate.
For the third year of the program, the government has announced that every registered candidate will be given a scholarship of Rs 75,000 every month.
Under this program, every candidate will get a salary of Rs 80,000 in the 4th and 5th year. Apart from this, the government has also announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for full 5 years i.e. a grant of Rs 2 lakh per year.
Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme Application [How to Apply] :-
Students who wish to register for the Doctoral Fellowship Program must first visit the website of pmrf.in from their web browser.
When its official site opens, you will have to select the option of “apply online”. After this you will be redirected to the registration form, where you will have to fill the form with details.
The candidate will have to fill the online registration form completely and then also upload his/her relevant documents. Once the documents are uploaded, the form can be submitted. The candidate will also have the option of printing, so that he can keep a hard copy with him for future.
Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme Fee Details [Fee Details] :-
The candidate will have to pay Rs 1000 for the application form. And candidates can make this payment on online web portal. On selecting the online payment option, you will be redirected to the SBI portal, where you can make the payment directly after agreeing to the terms and conditions. Once the money is deposited, an e-receipt will be generated which will be useful in PDF format. Candidates are expected to quote the reference number in the application form.

To implement the scheme effectively, the government has already fixed a budget of Rs 1650 crore for it. The central government has announced that the budget will be used for funding for the next 7 years.
