Many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to liberate the country and fight the enemies. Keeping in mind how these fighters will support their families after their martyrdom, the Government of India has planned to provide them pension. Due to which pension is provided to the freedom fighters and their dependent family members in India.

Freedom Fighter Samman Pension Scheme History Details :-
In fact, the Government of India had started the 'Ex-Andaman Political Pensioners Pension Scheme' in 1969 to honor the freedom fighters of India who were sent to Port Blair jail by the British. After this, a scheme was made to give pension to the freedom fighters and their dependents on the silver jubilee year of 1972. But in 1980, by combining both these schemes, it was named a new scheme ‘Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Yojana’. Since then, under this scheme, pension is being distributed by the Government of India to the freedom fighters and their eligible dependents every 5 years. The 12th Five Year Plan of this scheme ended on 31/3/2017, after which the Government of India has approved the continuation of this scheme for the period 2017-20.

Assistance given in the scheme:-
To those freedom fighters who contributed to the national freedom struggle. They will be provided monthly pension.

Support to improve economic condition:-
There are many freedom fighters whose family's financial condition is weak. Through this pension scheme, they will get some help to live their life.


Eligible dependent :-
This pension will be provided to the spouses, unmarried and unemployed daughters of freedom fighters and their dependent parents. So that they do not have to face any kind of problem.

Freedom Fighters Samman Pension Scheme Eligibility
Dependents of martyrs:-
This scheme will include those people who were martyred during the freedom struggle. This pension will be given to their dependents i.e. their dependent family members.

Imprisonment :-
Fighters who have been sentenced to imprisonment by the British Government for a period of at least 6 months will be eligible. A period of 3 months has been fixed for women and ST/SC freedom fighters.

Underground :-
A person who remained underground for more than 6 months during the freedom struggle will also be considered eligible for this scheme.

inner outer :-
Those people who had to live indoors or outside the district for more than 6 months during their participation in the freedom struggle will also be eligible for this.

property damage :-
Those people who lost their property during the freedom struggle will also be eligible for this.

Permanent disability :-
A person who has become permanently disabled or incapacitated during firing or lathi charge in combat is also eligible for this.

Loss of government job:-
Those freedom fighters who have lost their government jobs due to the war or have left it themselves will also get benefits under this scheme.

Canning / Flogging / Whipping :-
Those persons who have received the punishment of 10 strokes of caning/flogging/whipping during their participation in the freedom struggle will also get the benefit.

Order of merit :-
In case of availability of more than one dependent in the family, the order of eligibility will be as follows – first widow/widower, then unmarried daughters, followed by mother and lastly father.

Those who are not eligible :-
Apart from this, if a person's property has been restored, then he will not be eligible for this scheme. Also, those who have rejoined government service before the expiry of two years from their withdrawal from government service, or are receiving its benefits, will not be considered eligible for this.

Freedom Fighter Honor Pension Amount :-
Initially the monthly pension for freedom fighters was fixed at Rs 200. After this it was amended from time to time. The pension amount has been increased for various categories of freedom fighters and their dependents during 2017-2020. Also, this pension amount is not taxable. In this, the categories of fighters and the pension given to them are as follows –

Dependents of martyrs will have to submit appropriate documents from their official records and newspapers of appropriate time.
Those freedom fighters who have served jail sentence need to submit certificates obtained from the concerned jail authorities, District Magistrate or State Government.
Those applicants who were involved in the secret freedom struggle will have to submit documents like Courts/Government orders declaring them as absentees as proof.
It will also be necessary to provide birth/death certificates to the dependents of those freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the war.
Proof of recommendation from a distinguished person regarding some incident in the past can also be given for this.

Freedom Fighter Samman Pension Scheme Application (How to Apply):-
As soon as you visit its official website. Here you will need to submit an application in the prescribed format. Fill all the appropriate information asked in the application.
After this you send the application form to the Principal Secretary of the concerned State Government/Union Territory with all the appropriate information.
Besides, it is also necessary to send its second copy to the Deputy Secretary to the Government of India, Freedom Fighters Department, Ministry of Home Affairs.
Based on the copy of the application submitted by you, scrutiny will be done in consultation with the State Advisory Committee in the State Government/Union Territory.
After state verification and entitlement to pension report, the applicant is awarded the pension if his/her claim is in place.

Freedom Fighter Honor Pension Duration :-
Samman pension will be given to unmarried daughters for life, but if the pensioner gets married or dies due to any reason, it will be canceled immediately.
